Cabling
Cabling & Bracing
Trees with codominant leaders—where a single trunk splits into two or more main stems—often suffer from structural weaknesses due to bark inclusions. Rather than being joined by solid wood, these unions typically have very little material holding them together laterally. In our area, codominant conifers are a common issue, and as they grow taller, their trunks pull farther apart, putting serious strain on the defective base.
To help support these trees and reduce the risk of failure, we use the Cobra Dynamic Bracing System—a noninvasive, high-performance support system installed in the upper canopy. Cobra bracing allows a tree to move naturally in the wind, promoting healthy growth while dramatically reducing stress at weak points. The system is lightweight, durable, and designed to accommodate the tree’s growth over time without damaging the bark or cambium.
Cabling can be used to support individual limbs, entire codominant leads, or even help stabilize whole trees depending on the situation. In many cases, cabling in conjunction with selective pruning allows us to preserve trees that might otherwise need to be removed for safety reasons—providing both peace of mind and long-term health for your tree.
